Numerical Simulation of Blast Loaded CFRP Retrofitted Steel Plates

This paper reports on the results of a numerical study to simulate response carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) retrofitted steel plates applied blast loads using finite element software, LS-DYNA. The simulation were validated against plate and magnitude deformation obtained from previous experiments. uniform load was generated in experiment by detonating cylindrical charge down end square tube. code LS-DYNA used structural respective structures. For model, simulated mapping feature available for multi-material arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (MM-ALE) elements which significantly reduced size air domain model. simulations showed satisfactory correlation with experiments post-failure deformations that occurred CFRP plates.
